Apparently I sort of lied about keeping up with the blog. Life became very busy all of a sudden.
Running related: things have been going pretty well. The planned increase in mileage seems to be working out so far. I have spent about 4 weeks hovering in the mid 40′s. June’s goal is to move up to hovering in the mid 50′s.
Racing related: Barathon went poorly. I started off strong but managed to make the wrong turn and add on about .5 of a mile losing my leading and energy. The party after was very fun despite being sad about the race outcome.
The Greek Festival 5k race went better than planned and I clocked a road PR of 18:33 and placed second. Unexpected good races are always fun. Splits were 5:52, 11:50, and ???. The Southern Runner ladies all managed pretty good races with Michelle Hymel winning the mile race and Sarah Skotty winning the 5k and breaking the course record (17:33). Mary Erin also had a good day clocking 19:4?!
I hope I can manage to stay motivated while still enjoying most of the fun things summer has to offer. I have found in may that getting up and doing a run in the morning is a great way to secure my mileage goals. The heat has recently cranked up so I might have to go a little earlier (I have been waiting until 8am). Louisiana summers can beat a runner up if we are not careful.
In other news, I have recently purchased a pair of running sunglasses. WOW! How have I gone so long without a pair of these things. They make everything better. No more squinting and headaches. They are pink. I do not like the way they look on, but they sure make running more pleasant.
(pretty hard to see them here)
Thats all the interesting running updates I have today. Until next time….
